Relevance of lean manufacturing in Indian small scale industry

Abstract

Most of the manufacturing industries are facing challenges of rapidly changing customer needs, desires and tastes. Lean practices strive to empower the workers, increase worker satisfaction, facilitate a sense of accomplishment, thereby creating a pride to work. It not only ensures that manufacturing processes become leaner and fitter, but eliminate all kinds of waste which is not adding any value to the product. For Indian manufacturing industries to stay in competition and maintain their market share in this global market, the adaptation of lean manufacturing system has become necessary. With lean practices Indian industries endeavour to empower the workers, increase job satisfaction, facilitate a sense of accomplishment, thereby creating a pride of work. This paper presents a review of lean manufacturing adopted by manufacturing organisations.
