Selection of projects for damage mitigation using a valuation approach

Abstract

A major university located in a region of high-hurricane activity aspired to complete hurricane damage mitigation projects. After potential hurricane damage mitigation projects had been identified, a logical method to prioritise the projects needed to be developed to maximise the use of available financial resources. We developed and implemented a valuation approach to determine the value of mitigation projects. This paper examines the analysis and expands the analysis to evaluate the relationship between the present value of the project cost and mitigation project.
