Abstract

Over the last three decades, research on ownership structure and firm performance has gained prominence due to rising interest among academicians and scholars. The current study intends to review the existing literature on ownership structure and firm performance to map the development of the concept. Using the sample data of 505 articles that have been retrieved from the Scopus database, the study shows the publications' growth from 1994 to 2023. Based on this data, the study applies the performance analysis to identify the publication trend, top leading institutions, journals, and countries in this area. Additionally, using content analysis, this study fetches four clusters concerning themes of 'emerging economy', 'family-controlled firms', 'Chinese firms', and 'miscellaneous.' The study also suggests future avenues for prospective researchers.
