Evaluating resilience of a two-echelon supply chain under disruptions using renewal theory

Abstract

Global supply chain disruptions induce many challenges for businesses; thus, supply chain analysis has become more prominent as it prevails in understanding complexities for more effective delivery responses. Assessing the supply chain not only helps to avoid delays in recovery time but also develop a greater robustification of the supply chain's ability to overcome disruptions. This research proposes the use of renewal theory to evaluate resilience metrics of a supply chain by quantifying the system's sustainability, vulnerability, and recoverability in the event of supplier disruption, which affects the managerial ability of the manufacturer. This study offers an alternative method for evaluating the performance of supply chain resilience strategies over the long-term. Sensitivity analyses are conducted to examine the influence of each system parameter on resilience measures. The study provides valuable insights into building more resilient supply chain systems that can withstand disruptions and recover quickly. [Received 23 October 2024; Accepted 15 May 2025]
