Abstract

La literatura asigna unánimemente a las tecnologías de la información y de la comunicación (TIC) la facultad de incrementar la eficacia de la cooperación entre los operadores turísticos y la de favorecer el desarrollo de la industria turística. Sin embargo, no existe una síntesis de la investigación teórica que permita abordar un análisis empírico dirigido a reducir la incertidumbre que se cierne sobre el futuro de la estructura del sistema de distribución turístico como consecuencia de un uso intensivo de las TIC. Así, el propósito de este trabajo es cubrir esta falta. Para ello, primero se identifican en la literatura los posibles cambios en el sistema que teóricamente pueden estar siendo generados por las TIC; segundo, se aplica este marco teórico a una base de datos que recoge información proporcionada por los intermediarios turísticos. El análisis factorial exploratorio encuentra que el uso intensivo de las TIC fomenta 4 tipos de cambios estructurales. La evolución del sector parece ligada a un incremento de canales directos así como al reposicionamiento de los proveedores, de los intermediarios (tanto tradicionales como virtuales) y de los consumidores. / There is unanimous acknowledgement in the literature in that information and communication technologies (ICT) can improve the effectiveness of cooperation between tour operators and help in the development of the tourism industry. However, there is no empirical research that supports the reduced uncertainty about the future structure of the sector resulting from the changes induced by ICT. The objective of this paper is to attempt to fill this gap, firstly by identifying the change criteria found in the research literature, and secondly, to apply the resulting theoretical framework using the data collected in a survey of tourism intermediaries.
