Abstract

The Transfer of Technology (TOT)/licenser project of aircraft optoelectronics avionics systems production has many challenges like licenser support, production facility setup, training for the project, testing bench and its calibration-related issues and material supply. The existing Indian aviation industry is weak in knowledge and experience regarding optical assembly to compete with international quality standards. For TOT/licenser project in the aviation industry, specific guidelines from the licenser have to be adhered to for airworthiness standards. The present study in this regard aims to find a way out in the midst of these challenges by optimization of the existing resources. It summarizes the various existing production line problems for TOT projects and analyzes them. Different engineering methodologies have been recommended to narrow down the gap between the best practices recommended by the licenser and the actual practice running in the production line, and give some ideas for effective TOT. Primary data has been analyzed by statistical methods, Baye’s theorem of probability and chi-square test, to find the root cause for the high failure rate of optoelectronics avionics systems. As a corrective action, a special task force has been proposed which will resolve the problems on a priority basis. The results of this study will enhance our confidence to meet the international quality standards of TOT projects of aviation.
