A Novel System Hardening Technique Against Malicious Penetration Attempts

Abstract

Penetration test is a legal and authorized attempt to locate and successfully exploit computer network and/or systems for the purpose of making them more secure. System hardening is employed to reduce the ease with which computers are penetrated. In this paper, Remote Procedure Call Distributed Object Model (RPCDCOM) attack is used to penetrate the remote system. For this kind of attack to be successful on the remote system, the system must be alive, that is, the system should not be locked or shut down. If the system is locked, it requires the attacker to crack the password, and by doing so, the attacker can bypass the login authentication. In this paper, a scheme to harden systems against easy penetration was developed using a facial recognition login system that accepts only the face of a legitimate user of the system for logging in.
