Abstract

Este artículo revisa los elementos de la escuela interpretativa Purvamimansa de la India que han sido adoptados por ISKCON, una institución Vaishnava moderna, para la exégesis de textos clásicos de la filosofía religiosa india como el Srimad Bhagavatam. Se delinea el origen y las características de la escuela Mimansa y se discute cómo el concepto de 'sabda' (testimonio autoritativo) es central tanto para la epistemología Vaishnava como para la exégesis de textos sagrados. El artículo enfatiza que, para el vaishnavismo, la epistemología y la hermenéutica son inseparables y mutuamente dependientes, y argumenta que esta apropiación contemporánea de un antiguo sistema de interpretación puede considerarse una hermenéutica védica moderna.
