Abstract

"In öffentlichen Debatten wird oft die Hoffnung geäußert, dass die Rückwanderung von Arbeitskräften die demografische Situation ländlicher Räume in Deutschland verbessern kann. Tatsächlich machen Rückwanderungen einen bedeutenden Anteil der Binnenwanderung von Arbeitskräften aus. So war zwischen 2014 und 2017 mehr als jeder vierte Umzug in eine andere (Kreis-)Region eine Rückkehr in eine frühere Wohnortregion. Allerdings liegt die Zahl der zurückgekehrten Abwanderer nur in wenigen ländlichen Regionen auf dem Niveau der Wegzüge." (Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)
