Abstract

"Städte bieten im Verhältnis zu ihrer Bevölkerungszahl ein größeres Potenzial an offenen Stellen als der ländliche Raum. Dennoch benötigt ein Arbeitsloser aus der Stadt im Schnitt mehr Zeit, um wieder eine Beschäftigung zu finden, als ein Erwerbsloser in ländlichen Regionen. Dies gilt auch dann, wenn sich beide ansonsten nicht nennenswert voneinander unterscheiden. Wie lässt sich dieses Paradox erklären? Dieser Frage sind die Arbeitsmarktforscher Dr. Peter Haller, bis Januar dieses Jahres wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Forschungsbereich 'Regionale Arbeitsmärkte' des IAB, und Daniel F. Heuermann, Professor für Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der University of Applied Sciences Europe in Berlin, in einer aktuellen Studie für das international renommierte Journal of Regional Science nachgegangen.
