Abstract

"Die Erforschung von Armut gehört seit jeher zu den zentralen Aufgaben der empirischen Sozialforschung. Typische Forschungsfragen befassen sich damit, was unter Armut zu verstehen ist, wer davon hauptsächlich betroffen ist und wie sich Armut ganz konkret auf die betroffenen Menschen auswirkt. Für verlässliche Antworten ist die Wissenschaft auf Angaben aus großen Bevölkerungsbefragungen wie dem Panel 'Arbeitsmarkt und soziale Sicherung' des IAB angewiesen. Die Ergebnisse bilden dann die Grundlage für politische Entscheidungen und tragen so letztlich dazu bei, die Lebenssituation von Menschen in einer Armutslage zu verbessern."
