Klimawandel - Im Osten geht die Sonne unter

Abstract

Der Beitrag fasst die Prognosen des IAB zur Bevölkerungsentwicklung in Ostdeutschland zusammen. Bis zum Jahr 2050 wird ein Absinken des Bevölkerungsanteils der 15- bis 64 Jährigen von derzeit 10 Millionen auf weniger als die Hälfte prognostiziert. Der Hauptgrund für die Bevölkerungsabnahme ist der Geburtenausfall nach der Wende aufgrund der ökonomischen Entwicklung und der Angleichung der Verhaltensmuster in Ost und West. Die Bevölkerungsprojektion stellt eine wichtige Grundlage für die Vorausschätzung des Arbeitskräfteangebots (Erwerbspersonenpotential) dar. Dieses wird in den neuen Bundesländern dramatisch sinken und zugleich altern. Der Beitrag untersucht, ob der Rückgang des Erwerbspersonenpotentials den Druck vom ostdeutschen Arbeitsmarkt nehmen wird und kommt zu dem Schluss, dass dieser zwar die Tendenz weiterer Arbeitsplatzverluste dämpfen kann, letztlich aber im Osten eine Abwärtsspirale bevorsteht. Durch eine Aufwertung des ostdeutschen Standorts kann jedoch die Überlebens- und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit Ostdeutschlands gesichert werden. (IAB)
