Abstract

Der Aufsatz erläutert die unterschiedlichen Chancen auf dem Arbeitsmarkt in Abhängigkeit von der Qualifikation. Graphisch dargestellt werden die Zahlen für qualifikationsspezifische Arbeitslosenquoten (1975-2004, bezogen auf Gesamtdeutschland und die neuen Länder), die Entwicklung der Erwerbstätigkeit und des Bruttoinlandsproduktes nach Qualifikationsebenen, die qualifikationsspezifischen Arbeitslosenquoten nach Geschlecht sowie nach dem Alter. Es wird festgestellt, dass die Chancen auf dem Arbeitsmarkt weitgehend von der Qualifikation bestimmt werden, während das Geschlecht und das Alter nur eine untergeordnete Rolle spielen. Ein ausreichender Ersatz der aus dem Berufsleben demnächst ausscheidenden qualifizierten Erwerbstätigen ist nicht zu erwarten, da die mangelnden Bildungsanstrengungen und der demographische Wandel Grenzen setzen. Auf mittlere Sicht ist daher mit einem Mangel an Fachkräften zu rechnen. (IAB)
