Abstract

Ο όρος "ευελιξία" έχει χρησιμοποιηθεί με ποικίλους τρόπους στα οικονομικά της εργασίας και την πολιτική οικονομία και, κατά συνέπεια, είναι πολύ δύσκολο να υπάρξει από κοινού συμφωνία των μελετητών για το ακριβές περιεχόμενο αυτής της έννοιας. Ωστόσο, σύμφωνα με ένα γενικευμένο ορισμό, ευελιξία είναι η ικανότητα προσαρμογής και ανταπόκρισης της αγοράς εργασίας στις αλλαγές. Στη Σύνοδο Κορυφής της Λισσαβόνας, αρχές 21ου αιώνα, η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση είχε ήδη αναφερθεί στην έννοια της ευελιξίας και προστασίας στην αγορά εργασίας, με αποτέλεσμα από τον Ιανουάριο του 2006, η "ευελιασφάλεια" να αποτελεί κυρίαρχο θέμα της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής, το οποίο μεσουρανούσε στη δημοσίευση της Πράσινης Βίβλου.
