Zur Bedeutung der Maastrichter Konvergenzkriterien aus deutscher Sicht: Polit-÷konomische Anmerkungen

Abstract

In diesem Beitrag werden die Argumente f³r die Einhaltung der Maastrichter Konvergenzkriterien als Voraussetzung f³r den Erfolg einer Europõischen Wõhrungsunion (EWU) diskutiert. Als Schlu▀folgerung ergibt sich, da▀ letztlich die ÷konomischen Argumente f³r die strikte Einhlatung der Kriterien kaum ³berzeugen k÷nnen. Zur Erklõrung, warum dann die Bundesregierung in offiziellen Verlautbarungen diese Kriterien so betont, wird auf die skeptische Einstellungen in der deutschen Bev÷lkerung verwiesen. Der stabilitõtsorientierten Einstellung der Deutschen soll durch die Fixierung der Debatte auf die Konvergenzkriterien Rechnung getragen werden. Allerdings kann diese innenpolitsich motivierte Vorgehenseise mit ÷konomischen Nachteilen verbunden sein.
