Abstract
The loss of motivation and interest in learning mathematics is a concerning issue that has been passed down for generations. This condition is exacerbated by the continued use of conventional learning methods and strategies, which are leading to uncontrolled issues. The trend is associated with the fact that the learning strategies applied contribute to conflicts of motivation, interest, and attitudes, as well as negative perception of mathematics. Therefore, this study aims to examine the influence of implementing innovative learning strategies on the spread of student motivation and interest in learning mathematics using a deterministic mathematical model. The purpose is to maximize the learning outcome by determining the optimal control using the Pontryagin minimum or maximum principle and numerical simulations through MATLAB software. The optimal control was used to increase the number of motivated subpopulations which included the students and teachers. The result from the numerical simulations showed that the strategy was effective in reducing the demotivating population and significantly increasing motivation and interest of students in learning mathematics. This was achieved through interactions between intrinsically motivated teachers and students. The trend showed that the innovative learning strategy implemented was able to enhance positive relationships and foster harmony between the students, teachers, and administrators. The process subsequently increased motivation and interest in learning mathematics. However, boundaries are required in the implementation to mitigate negative influence and enhance positive influence on personal relationships during learning. The strategy was observed to be sufficient for 3 months with 100% application of the ideal size recommended.
