Abstract

This article analyses the economic entries of Enciclopedia Moderna, the first encyclopaedia to be written in Spanish. The selection, nature, and content of the economic entries in this encyclopaedia are carefully studied and particular attention is paid to its central role as a means of introducing foreign economic thought into Spain and as a way of disseminating the liberal economic organisation model and the doctrine of free trade.
