Abstract

The interaction between the development of environmental and resource policy in Denmark on the one hand and economic theory on the other is described, and the lack of influence by economists on past and current policy is pointed out. The potential future use of economic theory and applied resource and environmental economics is considered in the light of the need for efficient use of natural and man- made resources, since the demand for nature services will probably increase significantly in the future. Unfortunately, the outlook for major studies in applied economics is not promising, and the political will to take into account economic thinking in formulating environmental and resource policy has historically been weak.
