Abstract

: This article deals with developments in the financial sector in Denmark during the 20th century, and the expected course of development in the next century. Development in the financial sector in the 20th century has been rather less dramatic than that in many other areas. The institutions were more or less the same at the end of the century as at the beginning, and the relative size of the sector did not alter significantly. In the next century, a much more dramatic development is expected. In particular, the fast-growing pensions sector and technological developments will significantly change the financial sector and its importance for the economy.
