Abstract

This paper considers whether the provision of recreational facilities, preservation of biological diversity and protection of drinking water reserves in Denmark are carried out in such a way as to minimize costs. By estimating an expenditure function for the Danish Forest and Nature Agency using simple linear regression, we find evidence that some of the goals of environmental management are not pursued in the most economical ways. Economic methods could help to achieve better results from environmental management without increasing costs.
