Abstract

Med sin bog ‘A theory of justice’ fra 1971 retter filosoffen John Rawls et meget direkte angreb mod utilitarismen og dens etik. Formålet er dog først og fremmest at definere begrebet retfærdighed – altså at danne en slags ‘benchmark’ der kan bruges til at vurdere bl.a. fordelingsmæssig retfærdighed for alternative samfundskonstruktioner. Rawls tager udgangspunkt i Kant’s ide om maksimal frihed foreneligt med andres frihed.
