An Analysis On The Trc3 Region In Creation Of Gross Domestic Product Of Turkey And The Comparison Of “Locomotive Cities”

In the world where global economic competition is gradually increasing, countries are in an intensive struggle for increasing their market shares, attracting direct and indirect investments to their own countries. While the competition between countries is an important factor in macroscale, the present study will be analyzed in microscale on Turkey. The contributions of the cities named “Locomotive Cities” (Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa) and the cities in the region TRC3 (Mardin, Sirnak, Batman, Siirt) to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Turkey are aimed to compare under the titles of agriculture, industry, and services in terms of contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Turkey. In this context, the answer has been searched to the question “what strategies the cities which make little contributions to GDP must use in order to increase their contributions”. The official statistics and periodicals have been used in the preparation of the study. The study has been created by basing on the data in the years between 2007 and 2017. Consequently, it is confirmed that “Locomotive Cities” create on average 52% of GDP of Turkey by years 2007-2017; on the other hand, the contribution of the region TRC3 to GDP of Turkey is on average 1,28%. When the cities in the region TRC3 are compared among themselves in terms of agriculture, industry, and services, it is concluded that the contribution of the city Mardin to GDP is more than the other cities. When “Locomotive Cities” are compared among themselves in terms of agriculture, industry, and services, it is concluded that while Istanbul is the pioneer in the industry and service sectors, Izmir is the pioneer in the agriculture sector.
