Salud mental juvenil en crisis: Cuando la pandemia amplifica desigualdades estructurales

Abstract

La pandemia por covid-19 tuvo un efecto severo en la salud mental de mujeres jóvenes en situación de vulnerabilidad en el Perú, pues exacerbó síntomas de ansiedad, depresión y estrés. Este estudio cualitativo, basado en el enfoque de experiencia vivida, analiza las trayectorias de dos jóvenes peruanas –una de contexto rural y otra urbano– participantes del estudio Niños del Milenio (NdM), quienes enfrentaron afectaciones persistentes en su bienestar emocional durante la crisis sanitaria. Sus relatos revelan tres factores clave detrás del malestar: la sobrecarga doméstica, la precariedad económica y las barreras para acceder a atención psicológica. Estos se entrelazan con desigualdades estructurales de género, pobreza y violencia. El estudio resalta la necesidad de contar con políticas públicas que reconozcan la salud mental como un derecho, promuevan enfoques interseccionales y amplíen el acceso a servicios culturalmente pertinentes. Escuchar las voces de quienes han sufrido es crucial para evitar que futuras crisis reproduzcan exclusiones preexistentes.
