Liberdade Econômica e Crescimento

Abstract

O artigo relaciona a liberdade econômica com o crescimento econômico entre os anos 1970 e 2014 para uma amostra de 107 países. A proxy para a liberdade econômica, o índice de liberdade econômica, se mostrou significativa e positiva na maior parte das regressões. Testes de robustez foram realizados e os resultados se mantiveram. Na análise de convergência de renda, ao não controlar para o nível inicial de renda, as estimativas indicaram que o nível inicial do índice de liberdade acarretava em maior crescimento. Todavia, ao incluir o controle da renda inicial esse resultado não se manteve. Conclui-se que a liberdade econômica tem relevante papel para explicar o crescimento econômico de longo prazo das economias.
