Gasto Público em Educação e Desempenho Escolar

Abstract

Este estudo analisa a relação entre gasto público em educação e desempenho educacional. Encontra-se que aumentos da despesa municipal em educação estão associados a aumentos da escolaridade da população jovem, mas não há indicações que os municípios brasileiros que mais investiram no setor melhoraram relativamente a qualidade do ensino. Identifica-se o impacto do aumento de despesas no setor avaliando o desempenho educacional dos municípios produtores de petróleo beneficiados com aumentos de receitas de royalties. Encontra-se que esses municípios promoveram um aumento de despesas com educação 13% maior que os municípios costeiros vizinhos, mas não houve reflexos no aprendizado dos alunos.
