Abstract

Em 6 de agosto de 2007, na solenidade de abertura da primeira das três semanas da avaliação trienal 2004-2006 dos 3.400 cursos de pós-graduação stricto sensu no Brasil, o diretor presidente da Capes/MEC, prof. Jorge Guimarães, anunciou que, no período, o crescimento da produção científica no país tinha sido de 33% (Portal Capes, Sala de Imprensa, na mesma data). O número de cursos avaliados em 2004 tinha sido 1.819. Segundo ele, na mesma ocasião, em comparação com a produção científica mundial, que cresce continuamente, a participação brasileira pulou de cerca de 1% em 2000 para quase 2%. O fenômeno (no sentido coloquial mesmo) desperta reflexões, pois se conhece como gradual a curva ordinária de amadurecimento de uma comunidade científica.
