Abstract

The Quality of Life and Relational Goods: New Frontiers for the Regional Policies in the South of Italy - This work deals with the role of social enterprises in the current EU regional policy for the so-called Mezzogiorno of Italy. First, we discuss the new framework in the development policy for the South of Italy as a perspective tailored at enhancing the opportunities and capacities of the citizens. Secondly, we address the thesis that strengthening the role of social enterprises in the provision of merit goods and collective services would have a positive impact both on the quality of life and on social capital accumulation. Third, we critically analyse the regional planning tools of the Southern Regions of Italy to verify which improvement in these objectives may be expected.
