Note: [English Title] THE STATUS OF WOMEN IN TURKISH LABOR MARKET [English Abstract] Women, who form 50% of Turkey's population, have a labor force participation rate of 30%. In connection with the dissimilarity of Turkish labor market from that of the OECD members - existence of informal sector in the urban area, rural-urban migration and the high employment rate of agricultural sector- in 199S the labor force participation rate of the women in rural regions was 50% whereas that of in urban regions was only l5%. The serious oblems the employed women in urban regions confront and the reality that the women in rural regions are at work for family gain is also proved and supported by the detailed statistical data which is gathered by SIS since 1988. As far as it is noticed, both the educated and uneducated women in Turkey have huge problems. Raising the welfare level and the education level of women throughout the whole country and applying appropriate policies to prevent rural-urban migration may be the fundamental steps towards the solution of the labor market's problems from women's point of view.
