Impactos de remesas internacionales y transferencias gubernamentales en el gasto de los hogares. Evidencias recientes en México

Abstract

En años recientes, los flujos de remesas internacionales y transferencias gubernamentales han aumen-tado en forma considerable. Estos aumentos se explican, por un lado, por una mayor emigración y, por el otro lado, por políticas sociales enfocadas en atender a las poblaciones más vulnerables. Utilizan-do datos de la Encuesta nacional de ingresos y Gastos de los Hogares de 2016 y 2018, estimamos modelos de emparejamiento por puntaje de propensión para conocer los cambios en los patro-nes de gasto de dos grupos de hogares, receptores de remesas y receptores de transferencias guber-namentales. Los resultados indican que los hogares con remesas gastan más en inversiones productivas y capital humano y los hogares con transferencias gubernamentales gastan más en consumo. Los hallaz-gos son relevantes ya que destacan la necesidad de formular políticas que promuevan las inversiones productivas en los hogares más desfavorecidos de las zonas rurales y sur de México.
