Abstract
Benzimidazoles and their derivatives, such as antiulcer, analgesic, and anthelmintic medications, are incredibly important medicinal agents. An important field of study in organic chemistry is the chemical synthesis of benzimidazoles and its derivatives to produce active pharmaceutical molecules. The pharmaceutical sector and the synthesis of these crucial pharmaceuticals face challenges due to the usage of non-environmental chemical materials, high energy synthetic methods, waste creation, and typical hazardous processes. This review summarises the substituted benzimidazoles to shed light on their pharmacological activity and chemical synthesis utilising environmentally friendly techniques. The synthesis of heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, oxygen, and sulphur has been the subject of numerous reports in recent decades due to a wide range of their biological activity. The synthesis of heterocyclic compounds under different conditions, such as solvent-free, reactants immobilised on solid support, microwave irradiation condition, green catalyst, and green solvent, has been the subject of numerous reports in recent years. Benz imidazole is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound that is an important pharmacophore and privileged structure in medicinal chemistry.
