Abstract

Real-time operating systems (RTOS) form the backbone of modern air traffic control infrastructure, enabling the precise temporal coordination essential for safe and efficient aviation operations. Demonstrated that fault-tolerant scheduling mechanisms in mixed-criticality embedded systems can achieve a 98% success ratio when managing air traffic control workloads on multicore processors with active backup mechanisms. The critical nature of air traffic control demands operating systems capable of guaranteeing hard real-time constraints while maintaining reliability under transient faults, making RTOS selection and configuration a paramount concern in system design.
