Abstract

This work investigates the flexural behavior of plain concrete beams, both un-strengthened and strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets. Utilizing Abaqus 2020 for finite element analysis, the study examines the effectiveness of CFRP in enhancing load-carrying capacity and reducing deformation under bending loads. The modeling included a plain concrete beam and a CFRP-strengthened beam, subjected to two-point loading. Results indicate a significant improvement in the flexural capacity and a reduction in mid-span deflection for the CFRP-strengthened beam compared to the control. Validation against experimental results shows good agreement, confirming the modeling approach's accuracy and the potential of CFRP for retrofitting concrete structures, as well as the effective use of finite element tools like Abaqus in predicting structural behavior.
