Abstract
Bob Dylan’s work occupies a unique intersection between literary artistry and socio-historical documentation. His corpus demonstrates how lyricism expressed through metaphor, symbolism, intertextuality, and narrative experimentation functions alongside processes of verification that ground his songs in lived reality, historical events, and cultural memory. This research paper examines how Dylan’s lyricism operates not only as poetic expression but also as a mode of historical authentication. By analyzing key works such as “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll,” “Hurricane,” “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” “Masters of War,” and “With God on Our Side,” the study explores how Dylan merges imaginative language with verifiable socio-political references. The paper further situates Dylan within musicology, folkloristics, journalism, and literary studies, arguing that his oeuvre challenges conventional separations between art and documentation. Through close reading and cultural-contextual analysis, this research demonstrates that Dylan’s lyricism affirms emotional, experiential truths, while his verification practices anchor these truths in historical and political realities. Ultimately, Dylan emerges not merely as a songwriter but as a cultural historian who reshapes the boundaries of narrative truth, poetic form, and collective memory.
