Abstract

India has been adding large-scale conventional power resources for decades as the demand for electricity has increased. Now, with solar and wind power and other renewable electricity (RE) resources becoming commercially available in the marketplace, there are additional choices available to policymakers and stakeholders concerned with the technical, economic, and environmental characteristics of a future power system that keeps pace with economic growth. India's enormous and mainly untapped potential in renewable energy is one of its main advantages both now and in the future. This integrated overview explores fundamental principles and development potential of RE, focusing on key technologies like solar thermal systems, photovoltaics, and wind power. An intense transition toward more sustainable energy sources is highlighted by the recent global increase in the use of renewable energy, which constitutes a revolutionary change in power generation. This trend is validated by data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which indicates that renewable energy capacity has seen a sudden growth since 2010 which is a clear indication to its increasing viability and acceptance.
