Environmental Impact of Mining - A Study of Jharia Coal Field Region

The Jharia Coal Field, located in the eastern part of India, is one of the oldest and largest coal-producing regions, supplying a significant portion of the nation’s energy needs. However, the environmental impact of extensive mining activities in this region has raised serious concerns. This study aims to explore the various environmental repercussions of coal mining in Jharia, including air pollution, water contamination, land degradation, and loss of biodiversity. The research also delves into the social and health impacts on local communities, including respiratory diseases, waterborne illnesses, and socio-economic displacement.
