Abstract

In dit artikel wordt een economische dynamiekindicator ontwikkeld op basis van de evolutie door de tijd heen van de empirische verdeling van de Balassa index. Deze index meet het geopenbaarde comparatieve voordcel dat een land heen in de productie van een bepaald goed. Het betreffende markovproces wordt geschat en de illformatie uit de bijbellorende markovmatrix wordt vertaald via een matrixnorm naar een getal. Dit getal is de indicator voor economische dynamiek. Vervolgens wordt deze indicator gerelateerd aan de verandering van het BBP. Panelschattingen laten zien dat er een positieve relatie bestaat tussen de op deze manier gcmeten economische dynamiek en economische groei.
