El turismo como vidriera de la vulneración de los derechos indígenas: El caso de la comunidad Wichi en Argentina

Abstract

No son pocas las comunidades indígenas que en los últimos años han incursionado en la actividad turística, algunas de ellas incentivadas por ONG que trabajan en el ámbito latinoamericano y otras por iniciativa propia. Todas tienen en común haber llegado al turismo para tratar de paliar su extrema pobreza. En el caso de los wichís, unas 80 000 personas que, junto con los chulupíes y los chorotes, forman la familia de los mataco- paraguayos, quizás lo han hecho también como una última oportunidad de hacerse visibles antes de su desaparición, en un país como la República Argentina que modificó en 1995 su Constitución, reconociendo y respetando la preexistencia étnica y cultural de los pueblos indígenas, y que ha ratificado la mayoría de los convenios y acuerdos internacionales en defensa de sus derechos. Como metodología para esta investigación se ha aplicado el estudio de situación, elaborado a partir de la información obtenida in situ y de la consulta a la bibliografía más actualizada sobre el tema.
