Turismo cultural en Guayaquil, Ecuador: El cementerio patrimonial de la ciudad

Abstract

La ciudad de Guayaquil cuenta con un cementerio que fue reconocido como Patrimonio Cultural del Ecuador el 18 de octubre de 2003, debido, en gran medida, a su riqueza escultórica y arquitectónica que encierra en sus 169.089 metros cuadrados de construcción. Sin embargo, muchos de los habitantes de la ciudad desconocen cómo y bajo qué circunstancias este cementerio fue construido, así como el valor cultural que se encierra en este camposanto. El presente artículo busca demostrar la importancia de este sitio para la ciudad de Guayaquil, y las características fundamentales que lo diferencian como un espacio para el desarrollo de actividades de turismo cultural en la urbe.
