Repensando las Interacciones Turismo-Desarrollo: Una Revisión Paradigmática

Abstract

El enorme crecimiento observado en el sector turístico internacional en las tres últimas décadas junto a la existencia de evidencia empírica satisfactoria, en términos de contribución de las actividades turísticas al crecimiento económico en diferentes países, ha generado una suerte de consensus tácito (y acrítico) en torno al Turismo, como instrumento de desarrollo de la periferia mundial, provocando un creciente protagonismo turístico dentro de las políticas y estrategias de Desarrollo tanto de países de baja renta, como de zonas periféricas y areas en declive. El presente trabajo plantea una revisión de la relación Turismo-Desarrollo desde la Teoria del Desarrollo y de sus principales paradigmas (Modernizacion, Dependencia, Neoliberal-Globalizador y Sostenibilidad-Alternativo) promoviéndose una visión del Turismo como fenómeno complejo que posibilita una reflexión fértil, cargada de prudencia, sobre las interacciones Turismo-Desarrollo.
