Abstract

No son pocas las comunidades indígenas que en los últimos años han incursionado en la actividad turística en Latinoamérica. Sin embargo son escasos los estudios dedicados a abordar las dimensiones sociales, y en particular, las de género en este ámbito, aun teniendo en cuenta que el turismo puede ser una eficaz herramienta para el empoderamiento y liderazgo de la mujer indígena. El referente empírico de esta investigación es la Comunidad de Santa Bárbara en Cotacachi, Ecuador y su objetivo es la formulación de estrategias para lograr una mayor igualdad de género, la autonomía y el empoderamiento de las mujeres indígenas de esta comunidad.
