Las Americas Y La Civilización: Proceso De Formación Y Causas Del Desarrollo Desigual De Los Pueblos Americanos

Abstract

Indudablemente Darcy Ribeiro se ha transformado en uno de los antropólogos latinoamericanos más influyentes de las últimas décadas. Centrado en el estudio de las causas económicas y políticas del desarrollo. En este contexto, la presente reseña examina su trabajo: Las Américas y la Civilización, obra publicada originalmente en 1972 por el Centro Editor de América Latina. El capítulo introductorio comienza haciendo una crítica a la sociología funcionalista y la postura marxista en cuanto a su tratamiento del desarrollo. Básicamente, el autor sostiene que la causalidad atribuida a los caracteres civilizatorios de ciertas culturas en detrimento de otras, es espuria. En este sentido, la “matriz de alteridad” se conforma mediante un proceso histórico de “humanización” por el cual se va construyendo una imagen propia y a la vez, “de los otros”. Este proceso se fundamenta en tres sistemas bien definidos: adaptativo, asociativo e ideológico.
