La evaluación nutricional en niños de edad escolar

Abstract

El estado nutricional es un indicador del estado de salud de los niños en edad escolar, aspecto de gran importancia para desarrollo físico, mental y social. Este trabajo tiene como objetivos analizar el marco conceptual y las metodologías existentes para la evaluación del estado nutricional, así como aplicar estas metodologías a una muestra niños en edad escolar en una escuela pública de la ciudad de Riobamba y analizar las relaciones existentes entre las variables antropométricas (peso y talla) con la edad, entre sí y con la variable de control género. Se concluye que la mayor parte de los niños tienen un estado nutricional adecuado, pero no se puede desestimar el hecho de que el 23 % tiene talla baja, un 19% presentan indicadores de obesidad por la relación peso/talla y el 10 % presenta bajo peso para la talla, demostrando la doble tendencia de la malnutrición existente.
