Abstract

Este ensayo analiza cómo individuos pertenecientes a los Niveles Socio Económicos C+ y C, buscan integrarse a otros grupos sociales mediante el consumo de ciertos bienes y servicios. Un estudio aplicado a parejas de la ciudad fronteriza de Mexicali, B.C., refleja cómo el consumo se convierte en un proceso de significación y comunicación en el que emerge el efecto bandwagon, concepto acuñado por Harvey Leibenstein en los años cincuenta basado en la tesis de Veblen para analizar formas de consumo presuntuoso y emulativo.
