La esclavitud en la jurisdicción de Bayamo en las dos últimas décadas del siglo XVIII. Una aproximación desde los protocolos notariales

Abstract

El presente trabajo constituye un acercamiento a las características de la esclavitud en la Jurisdicción de Bayamo (Cuba) en las dos últimas décadas del siglo XVIII (1781 - 1800), fundamentalmente desde el punto de vista cuantitativo. El estudio se realizó a partir de la consulta de la serie de protocolos notariales del período conservados en el Archivo Histórico Provincial de Granma, sobre la base del procesamiento estadístico de la información contenida en las escrituras de compraventa y cartas de libertad de esclavos, lo que permitió determinar algunos de los rasgos fundamentales de esta importante institución socioeconómica en la Jurisdicción bayamesa en el período analizado, contribuyendo a profundizar el estudio de la historia socioeconómica de Cuba en la etapa colonial.
