Elementos del producto turismo médico en ciudad Juárez, México

Abstract

La asistencia sanitaria es un tema primordial del siglo XXI. Actualmente los gobiernos e individuos enfrentan problemas complejos como el costo, accesibilidad y cambio de las tendencias demográficas. Al menos 50 países ofrecen servicios al paciente internacional y cada año cerca de 11 millones de personas visitan hospitales y clínicas en países distintos a su lugar de residencia. Casi un millón de estadounidenses viajaron al extranjero en 2015 para buscar atención sanitaria diversa; desde atención dental y cirugía estética hasta cirugía de corazón y ortopedia. El objetivo de este trabajo fue identificar los elementos relevantes que definen el producto turístico médico en la frontera Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México- El Paso, Texas, Estados Unidos. El alcance fue exploratorio, dada la escasa literatura existente sobre destinos con estas características. La investigación fue de enfoque cualitativo. Por medio de 69 entrevistas en profundidad se recopilaron datos de representantes de hospitales privados, organismos gubernamentales, agrupaciones de comercio, turismo y salud. Los resultados revelaron los principales elementos para la definición del producto turístico en la frontera, los cuales fueron la situación geográfica, la infraestructura y superestructura, el recurso humano de gran calidad, la diferenciación del producto y los servicios complementarios integrados en la región fronteriza.
