Abstract

Fundado el 31 de octubre de 1976 a raíz de la nueva división político administrativa, extensión territorial 1034 km2 lo que equivale a 7711cab (104 mil hectáreas) con una población absoluta de 16892 hab. Y una densidad de población de 16,3 hab. por km2 dividido para su administración en seis consejos populares, Las Nuevas, Jíbaro, La Sierpe, Ferrolana, San Carlos y Mapos. La evaluación ambiental del municipio La Sierpe tiene el objetivo de realizar una valoración integral de las condiciones ambientales del territorio en el contexto de su desarrollo socioeconómico, haciendo énfasis en el estudio del ambiente natural, por su función como fuente de recursos, soporte de las actividades humanas y receptor de residuos, con el fin de crear las bases para futuros planes de ordenamiento territorial y ambiental y dotar al Gobierno Municipal con la información ambiental necesaria para evaluar el alcance de los problemas ambientales detectados, revelar la necesidad de adoptar un conjunto de recomendaciones para su prevención, mitigación y/o erradicación.
