Abstract

Los años setenta y ochenta del pasado siglo fueron prolíficos en bibliografía sobre las “nuevas técnicas gerenciales japonesas”. La irrupción de empresas de Japón en el mercado norteamericano, que atacaron fuertemente las posiciones de líderes consolidados en sus industrias durante años, generaron un interés inusitado por conocer ¿qué hacían? y ¿cómo? las empresas del país asiático. Entre las rivalidades más conocidas estuvieron: Toyota vs. GM; Honda vs. Harley Davidson; Canon vs. Xerox; Sony vs. GE. “Los villanos japoneses fueron culpados de las desgracias de la Chrysler”, dijo Levitt con ironía.
