Wal-Mart en América del Norte: la expansión de la cadena de comercio minorista de Estados Unidos a Canadá

Abstract

A partir del establecimiento de las coordenadas de contexto necesarias para entender la presencia y el peso de una empresa trasnacional en su tránsito por el mundo, este trabajo concentra su interés en analizar cómo Wal Mart gana el segmento de bienes de consumo personal de los canadienses. Para ello se destaca la vecindad con Estados Unidos, situación análoga a la mexicana, la vigencia de un tratado de libre comercio, por un cuarto de siglo, así como las habilidades de la empresa, para escudriñar los perfiles de la población de cada país e ir imponiendo pautas de consumo con las cuales homogeniza los mercados a su favor.
