La economía mexicana a veinte años del TLCAN

Abstract

El pasado primero de enero del año que recién comienza, el TLCAN (Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte) cumplió veinte años de vigencia y operación. En su momento, el gobierno de Carlos Salinas de Gortari (1988-1994) argumentó que el TLCAN significaría prosperidad para México en términos de crecimiento económico, generación de empleos y poder adquisitivo del salario. Sin embargo, a veinte años del Tratado de Libre Comercio con los Estados Unidos y el Canadá el balance es el siguiente: estancamiento económico, déficit en balanza comercial, desempleo, pérdida de poder adquisitivo del salario, pobreza y profundas desigualdades sociales.
