Abstract

El agua que circula en el río Yaque del Norte es principalmente agua residual que se utiliza en la irrigación de cultivos, debido a la escasez de agua en la zona noroeste de la República Dominicana. Se desconoce su calidad y grado de contaminación, por lo que la presente investigación tiene como propósito diagnosticar la contaminación del agua descargada en el río. El control de la calidad microbiológica del agua de consumo y de vertido, requiere una serie de análisis dirigidos a determinar la presencia de microorganismos patógenos. En el año 1981 se estableció el programa de Calidad de Aguas con fines de evaluar los diferentes problemas de contaminación detectada en los ríos del país, se procederá a la evaluación de las descargas urbanas y drenajes agrícolas que vierten al río Yaque del Norte.
